Dual Ethernet Ports with Cascading Function

One of the features of the 4CH-RS485-ETH series is a built-in network switch with two 10/100M Ethernet ports. This enables daisy chaining (cascading) of a number of gateways on standard Ethernet cables. It reduces the wiring complexity significantly and avoids the need for purchasing external industrial network switches within the control cabinet.

Advanced (V) vs (VI) Version Options

The model is available in two different versions to meet a range of field needs. The standard (V) version is 9~24V DC input which is suitable for most automation environments. The upgraded (VI) version offers a strong 3000V isolation for opto couplers with 18~36V DC input. It is designed to be used for protection against harsh ground loops and electrical surges in heavy industrial applications.

4-Channel Independent Edge Computing

All 4 RS485 interfaces are independently operable. It is a very functional Modbus gateway of storage type in addition to basic transparent transmission. It can natively parse the Modbus RTU telemetry into structured JSON formats, allowing for automated and scheduled uploads of the data directly to enterprise platforms over MQTT or HTTP POST.

Technical FAQ & Troubleshooting

What is the benefit of the dual Ethernet ports (Cascading function)?
Dual RJ45 ports with built-in Ethernet switch. This allows you to daisy-chain (cascade) multiple 4CH gateways to a single uplink port on your router using normal Ethernet cables. This eliminates the need for an extra industrial switch purchase and installation in your control cabinet, greatly reducing wiring clutter and hardware cost.
How do I choose between the (V) version and the (VI) version?
Choice is determined by your power supply and interference environment. The standard (V) version runs on 9-24V DC and is great for clean, stock panels. The (VI) version requires 18-36V DC but provides 3000V optocoupler isolation. If your RS485 wiring is in close proximity to high voltage equipment, VFDs, or large motors you would definitely want to choose the (VI) version to prevent ground loops that can damage the transceiver.
Can the 4 serial ports operate on completely different network subnets?
Yes. They can share a single IP address (differentiated by TCP ports), but the gateway also supports independent IP allocation. Web browser configuration lets you assign a unique IP address to each of the 4 serial ports and securely bridge serial data across different IT and OT subnets.
