High-Density 8-Channel Industrial Gateway

The 8CH-RS485-ETH is a high-density IoT gateway, dedicated to complex industrial architectures that require multi serial connections. It provides 8 fully independent RS485 interfaces, perfectly blending a powerful serial server, Modbus gateway, MQTT gateway and RS485-to-JSON edge converter into one central node.

Dual Ethernet Cascading & Optional 3000V Isolation

Built-in switch, 2 x 10/100M Ethernet ports, designed to make the wiring within large control cabinets much easier. This allows easy daisy-chaining of multiple gateways. The standard version (V) is powered from a 9~24V DC input. For severe electrical environments, the enhanced (VI) version provides 3000V optocoupler isolation to all ports with heavy-duty 18~36V DC power supply to protect against worst-case ground loops.

Advanced Modbus & MQTT Routing

Besides transparent transmission, each of the 8 channels can be independently configured. It has the advanced storage-type Modbus gateway features, supports multi-host concurrent polling without bus collision. It also natively parses Modbus RTU and DL/T 645 to JSON for automated telemetry uploads via MQTT or HTTP POST directly to enterprise clouds like AWS, Azure or private brokers.

Technical FAQ & Troubleshooting

Why should I choose the (VI) 3000V isolated version for an 8-port gateway?
The copper wiring needs to be managed over large areas of the factory floor to 8 separate RS485 loops, greatly increasing the chance of picking up electromagnetic noise or suffering from ground potential differences. The (VI) version uses 3000V optocoupler isolation which is a critical firewall to prevent a surge on one RS485 loop from frying the gateway or affecting the other 7 channels.
How does the Dual Ethernet port (Cascading) function work?
The dual RJ45 ports are integrated 10/100M unmanaged network switch. If you need to install multiple 8-port gateways in the same control cabinet, you can daisy-chain multiple gateways using standard patch cables. You only need to plug one gateway directly into your main uplink router, eliminating the need for an external DIN-rail switch altogether and saving you massive panel space.
Can I set different baud rates and protocols for each of the 8 serial ports?
Yes. All 8 RS485 channels operate entirely independently. Through the built-in Web browser or Vircom utility, you can configure Port 1 to act as a Modbus RTU gateway at 9600bps, Port 2 as a transparent TCP Server at 115200bps, and Port 3 to parse data into JSON for MQTT upload—all simultaneously without interference.
