Scalable Daisy-Chain Expansion

The 4CH-RS232/485/422-ETH has a built-in dual 10/100M Ethernet port design as a network switch. This allows daisy-chaining multiple gateways together with standard network cables easily. You can easily scale from 4 to 8, 16, or even up to 32 serial ports throughout your facility without the need for any external industrial Ethernet switches.

4 Independent 3-in-1 Serial Channels

It is designed for maximum compatibility and provides 4 fully independent serial channels. All channels have user selectable ‘3-in-1’ interface (RS232, RS485 or RS422). The host computer can access all 4 channels simultaneously via virtual serial port software or direct TCP/IP protocols making it ideal for distributed multi-protocol environments.

Advanced Modbus & Edge Computing

In addition to transparent TCP transmission, the device also supports native Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU gateway functions. It supports multi-host concurrent polling for smooth data acquisition from multiple SCADA clients. It also acts as an edge gateway, parsing the data and uploading it securely via MQTT.

Technical FAQ & Troubleshooting

How does the daisy-chain (cascading) expansion work with the dual Ethernet ports?
The dual RJ45 ports function as an integrated 10/100M Ethernet switch. You simply connect your main network uplink to Ethernet Port 1, and use a standard patch cable from Ethernet Port 2 to the next 4CH gateway in your panel. You can repeat this to easily expand your system to 8, 12, 16 or even up to 32 serial ports without ever needing to buy a separate industrial Ethernet switch.
Can I mix different serial protocols and interfaces across the 4 channels simultaneously?
Yes, of course. The 4 channels are all separate. Physically wire an RS232 device to Channel 1, an RS485 meter to Channel 2 and an RS422 sensor to Channel 3. You can also set Channel 1 as transparent TCP Server at 9600bps and Channel 2 as Modbus Gateway at 115200bps from the Web GUI.
Why does the diagram show RJ45 connectors for the RS232 interfaces?
To save space in the slim enclosure, the physical RS232 signals are routed through RJ45 sockets, not bulky DB9 connectors. Use our optional RJ45-to-DB9 adapter cable to connect your standard RS232 equipment (PLC or PC) for a clean and secure connection.
