Valtoris Industrial RS485 Hub/Splitter/Repeater Connectivity Solution

Industrial RS485 Hub H2 1
Signal Expansion & Distance Extension

Extend RS485 communication up to 1200 meters at 9600 bps. Our RS485 line extender and RS485 range extender solutions regenerate weak signals and enable reliable multi-drop connections across large facilities, tunnels, or outdoor sites.

2500V Optical Isolation & Noise Immunity

Protect sensitive master devices from ground loops, surges, and EMI. With RS485 isolated repeater models featuring 2500V optical isolation, your network remains operational in electrically harsh environments.

Flexible Port Configurations

Choose from 4 port RS485 hub8 port serial hub, or rs485 hub 8 port configurations to match your node count. Our RS485 switch hub and serial port hub designs allow star or daisy-chain topologies without signal reflection or data collision.

Serial Port HUB
Transparent Transmission & Zero Latency

Hardware-level signal regeneration ensures microsecond-level latency. Our hubs are strictly protocol-agnostic, providing seamless transparent forwarding for Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, and RS485 protocols without any software configuration.

DIN-Rail Mount & Industrial Durability

All Valtoris serial/splitters feature rugged metal enclosures, -40°C to +85°C operating range, and standard DIN-rail mounting. Deploy them confidently in control cabinets, substations, or outdoor enclosures.

Cost-Effective, Maintenance-Free Operation

Engineered for continuous duty with no moving parts or active cooling. Deploy our hubs for years of trouble-free service, drastically reducing downtime and total cost of ownership (TCO).

Active RS485 Hubs vs. Basic Passive Splitters: Why Upgrading Matters

FeatureValtoris Active RS485 HubsBasic Passive Splitters / Y-Taps
Signal IntegrityActively regenerates and amplifies signals. Ensures zero data loss over long distances.Merely taps the existing signal. Introduces reflections and severe data degradation.
Network TopologyEnables true Star & Tree topologies. Safely expands to hundreds of devices without crashing.Forces a strict linear bus. Creating stubs violates RS485 rules and limits node count.
Surge Protection2500V Optical Isolation blocks ground loops and protects expensive master PLCs.Zero isolation. A single power surge can instantly destroy your entire control system.
Total Cost (TCO)Modest upfront cost, but completely eliminates chronic troubleshooting and field service calls.Appears cheap initially, but causes hidden costs: production downtime and burnt equipment.
FlexibilitySupports mixed RS232/485 networks, self-adaptive baud rates, and dual-master modes.Fixed, non-configurable physical taps with zero adaptability.

What Our Client Says

Learn how engineers and system integrators use Valtoris industrial RS485 hubsrepeaters to solve real‑world serial communication challenges.

  • “We needed to extend an existing RS485 bus to connect four flow meters spread across 800 meters. The 4CH-HUB-RS485 let us break the line into separate branches with 2500V isolation. Ground loop noise disappeared, and each meter now reports reliably.”

    David K.
    Project Engineer, Water Treatment Facility
  • “We inherited a messy network with too many stubs, which caused constant Modbus timeout errors. Instead of pulling new cables across the facility, we used the 8-port hub to properly isolate each branch. Polling is completely stable now, and the isolation fixed the interference”

Expert Guides To Industrial RS485 Hubs, Repeaters

Step 1: Determine Your Port Count Requirements

  • 4 port RS485 hub (4CH-HUB-RS485): Ideal for expanding one master to four slave branches, each supporting up to 32 nodes
  • 8 port serial hub (8CH-HUB-RS485): For larger networks requiring eight isolated slave ports
  • 2CH-HUB-RS485: For two-master/one-slave or one-master/two-slaves scenarios with address filtering

Step 2: Assess Isolation Needs

  • If connecting equipment with different ground potentials or in electrically noisy environments (factory floors, substations), choose RS485 isolated repeater models with 2500V optical isolation (4CH-HUB-RS485, 8CH-HUB-RS485, 4CH-HUB-RS232/485)
  • If all devices share the same ground and environment, non-isolated options may suffice

Step 3: Check Power Requirements

  • For installations without available power at the connection point, select port powered rs232 to rs485 converter which draws power directly from the RS232 port
  • For hub models, ensure DC 9-24V power is available at the installation location

Step 4: Verify Distance and Baud Rate Compatibility

  • All models support 1200m transmission at 9600 bps (shorter distances at higher baud rates)
  • 8CH-HUB-RS485 offers 300-460800 bps self-adaptive baud rate
  • Match baud rates across all devices on the same bus segment

Step 5: Consider Protocol and Signal Type

For RS232 to RS485 conversion only: industrial rs232 to rs485 converter on analysis.

For pure RS485 networks: 4CH/8CH/2CH hub models

For mixed RS232 and RS485 environments: 4CH-HUB-RS232/485 converts and splits

Frequently Ask Questions

Q1: Where should I place the 120Ω termination resistors when using a 4-port RS485 Hub?

A: In a star topology created by our hub, each slave port forms an independent RS485 segment. You only need to install a 120Ω resistor at the furthest device on each active branch. The Valtoris hub internally manages the signal integrity at its central point, so do not add extra resistors to the hub’s physical ports unless your cable runs are exceptionally long.

Q2: Will adding an active RS485 hub or repeater introduce latency to my Modbus polling cycle?

A: No significant latency is added. Valtoris industrial hubs perform hardware-level signal regeneration with microsecond-level delays. This transparent operation is completely invisible to standard Modbus RTU protocols and will not trigger timeout errors in your master PLC or gateway.

Q3: Can I connect devices with different baud rates to different ports on the same RS485 hub?

A: Standard transparent RS485 hubs require all devices across the network (including the Master) to communicate at the same baud rate. If you must mix different communication speeds, you cannot use a basic splitter. Instead, you need our specialized Caching RS485 Hub, which buffers and matches speeds between the master and slave devices.

Q4: Do I really need the 2500V isolated version if all my devices are inside the same control cabinet?

A: If all of your devices use the same power supply and ground, and there isn’t any heavy machinery (like VFDs) nearby, a non-isolated model might be enough. But if your cables leave the cabinet, go outside, or connect to equipment with different ground potentials, you need a Isolated RS485 Hub to stop ground loops and keep your master controller from burning out.

Q5: How can I identify which branch is causing network errors in a star topology?

A: One of the biggest advantages of an active hub is fault isolation—a short on one branch won’t take down the others. You can quickly identify the faulty line by checking the built-in TX/RX LED indicators on the Valtoris hub. A continuously solid or completely dead LED on a specific port immediately shows your field technicians exactly where to investigate, saving hours of downtime.
