Industrial 4-Channel RS485 Hub

Active Repeating & Network Expansion

Standard RS485 networks are strictly limited by physical daisy-chain wiring and a maximum of 32 nodes. The Valtoris 4CH-HUB bypasses these limitations by acting as an active signal repeater and splitter. It supports active RS485 network relaying, allowing you to branch out your communication lines and securely connect massive sensor arrays back to a single host PLC.

RS485 Network Extension

Flexible Star Topology Architecture

Break free from the traditional linear bus. The isolated master port (supporting both RS232 and RS485) connects directly to your central host device. The hub then actively splits and amplifies the signal into 4 independent, isolated RS485 slave branches. This true "Star Topology" drastically simplifies field wiring and prevents a single broken cable from collapsing your entire SCADA network.

Industrial Isolation & Surge Protection

Factory floors are electrically hostile. Without proper shielding, ground loops and transient voltage spikes can travel up a serial line and destroy expensive control hardware. This hub features a built-in photoelectric isolation circuit, delivering 2500V optical isolation between the master port and all slave branches. It provides robust anti-electrostatic and lightning/surge protection, making it indispensable for mission-critical industrial environments.

Industrial Optical Isolation

Adaptive Wide Baud Rate Range

No DIP switches or complex configurations are required to match communication speeds. The hub features intelligent, adaptive baud rate detection spanning from 0 to 200 kbps. It automatically synchronizes with the transmission speed of your host PLC, ensuring transparent, plug-and-play operation for almost any legacy serial protocol.

Hardware Dimensions & DIN-Rail Mounting

Designed for immediate integration into standard control panels, the hub features a built-in buckle for secure 35mm DIN-rail mounting. Its compact, ruggedized enclosure resists industrial vibration while organizing your complex serial branching.

Bypass Daisy-Chain Limits with Star Topologies

Traditional RS485 networks strictly require a linear daisy-chain wiring method. The Valtoris 4-Channel Isolated Hub shatters this limitation. Acting as an active splitter and signal repeater, it allows engineers to deploy highly flexible and fault-tolerant star topologies in complex, multi-directional industrial environments.

Fail-Safe Isolation for SCADA Systems

By isolating one master port into four independent slave channels, this DIN-rail hub localizes severe electrical faults. If a lightning strike or ground loop shorts out one field instrument, the 2500V optical isolation ensures the surge is contained. This keeps your primary PLC and the remaining three data channels running flawlessly, preventing a cascading network failure.

Q1: Can I use different baud rates for each of the 4 output ports?
A: No. The VT-4CH-HUB is an active repeater that operates at the physical layer, not a protocol converter. It mirrors the exact signal from the master port to all four slave branches simultaneously. Therefore, your host PLC and all slave sensors across the branches must be configured to the same baud rate and parity settings.
Q2: What happens to the rest of the network if a short circuit occurs on one specific branch?
A: This is precisely where the 2500V isolation pays off. Unlike a cheap passive splitter, this active hub electrically “segments” the network. If Branch #1 suffers a severe ground loop or a physical short, the fault is contained completely within that specific port. The master port and the other three slave branches will continue communicating normally, preventing a single faulty sensor from bringing down your entire SCADA system.
Q3: Does this hub require a termination resistor on every port?
A: Impedance matching is critical in a star topology. You should enable or physically install a 120-ohm termination resistor at the absolute end of each of the four physical branches. The hub itself usually only requires a termination resistor if the cable run between the Master PLC and the Hub is exceptionally long. See our wiring guides for exact resistor placement.
Q4: Can I use this hub to exceed the standard 32-device limit of an RS485 bus?
A: Yes. Because each of the 4 output ports contains an active signal conditioning chip, the hub effectively “refreshes” the RS485 voltage square wave. This allows you to deploy up to 32 additional slave nodes per branch port (totaling 128 slaves), assuming your SCADA software and Modbus addressing logic can handle the expanded capacity.
Q5: Is this a passive splitter, or does it require an external power supply?
A: This is an active isolation hub. Passive RS485 splitters (simple wire nuts) introduce severe signal reflections and impedance mismatches that guarantee data corruption over long distances. The VT-4CH-HUB requires a dedicated 9-24V DC power supply to drive its internal photoelectric isolation circuitry and active signal amplifiers.
