Industrial 4-Port Isolated RS485 Hub

An active isolated hub designed to expand one RS485 master into four independent slave ports, providing robust relay, expansion, and isolation for industrial networks.

Industrial 4-Port Isolated RS485 Hub overview

Active Signal Repeating & Expansion

Overcome standard distance limits. This hub acts as an active signal repeater, extending your RS485 communication reach up to 1200 meters per branch.

Flexible Star Topology

Break free from daisy-chain constraints. The 1-to-4 star topology isolates each slave branch, ensuring a single node failure will never crash the entire SCADA bus.

2500V Optical Isolation & Surge Protection

Built for harsh environments with 2500V optical isolation and 12KV electrostatic protection, effectively blocking ground loops and destructive power surges.

Bypass Daisy-Chain Limits with Star Topologies
  • The 4CH-HUB-RS485 is an industrial-grade active isolated Hub/Splitter/Repeater designed to shatter the limitations of linear serial wiring.
  • It expands 1 master RS485 port into 4 independent slave branches, enabling engineers to deploy highly flexible and fault-tolerant star topologies.
Fail-Safe Isolation for SCADA Systems
  • Features critical 2500V optical isolation between the master and all slave channels, successfully localizing severe electrical faults.
  • The ruggedized rail-mount case design includes screw terminal power inputs (DC 9~24V) for the ultimate cost-effective solution for data acquisition, IoT gateways and intelligent instrument monitoring in heavy industry.

Does this RS485 hub introduce communication latency that could cause Modbus RTU timeouts?
No. Unlike protocol gateways that buffer and process full data packets, this hub operates strictly at the physical hardware layer (OSI Layer 1 bit-level relaying). The signal regeneration delay is in the nanosecond range. It is virtually invisible to your PLC and will not trigger Modbus timeout or frame gap errors.

How do I handle 120Ω termination resistors in a Star Topology using this hub?
In a star topology, each of the 4 isolated slave branches acts as its own independent RS485 bus. You should place a 120Ω termination resistor only at the farthest end device of each active branch. The hub itself internally handles the master-side biasing and termination for those branches.

Can different slave branches operate at different baud rates or protocols?
No. The hub is a physical signal repeater, not a protocol converter. All devices across the master port and the 4 slave branches must share the exact same baud rate (e.g., 9600 bps) and protocol (e.g., Modbus RTU). If you require protocol conversion or edge parsing, please explore our Cellular Edge Gateways.

Can I cascade multiple hubs to expand beyond 4 branches or extend distance?
Yes. You can cascade hubs by wiring the Master port of a second hub to one of the Slave ports of the first hub. This actively regenerates the signal, granting another 1200m of distance per branch. However, to minimize cabinet wiring complexity for larger SCADA networks, we highly recommend upgrading directly to our 8CH-HUB-RS485 model.
