Will 4 active GigE Vision cameras cause the 4 PROFINET I/O stations to drop offline?
No. The VT-SW8GPN operates on a 16Gbps backplane with a dedicated 1.5Mbit buffer. When cameras blast 9kByte jumbo frames, the hardware QoS elevates cyclic RT frames (Priority 6) to the absolute top of the exit queue, keeping PLC jitter near zero.
Why doesn’t the VT-SW8GPN appear when I scan for ‘Accessible Devices’ in TIA Portal?
Because it is a purely unmanaged Layer 2 device. It possesses no IP address or PROFINET device name. It acts as a transparent physical medium: your PLC will natively pass RT cyclic frames and LLDP topology discovery packets through it instantly without needing a GSDML file.
Will this switch overheat inside a sealed cabinet at +75Ā°C without a fan?
No. The switch utilizes a low-power Gigabit ASIC capped at less than 3.2W under full load. Dissipation is managed entirely through the finned high-strength aluminum casing, acting as an efficient passive heat sink engineered to maintain safe core junction temperatures up to +75Ā°C ambient.
