PROFINET QoS: Protocol Priority Transmission

Built-in QoS expedites PROFINET protocol priority transmission. Heavy data bursts from IP cameras or HMIs will never delay your PLC cyclic control frames.

PROFINET Protocol Priority Transmission Architecture

Foolproof Power: Non-Polarity DC9~60V

Accepts dual redundant DC9~60V or AC24V inputs. Completely non-polarity circuitry prevents reverse-wiring short circuits during rushed cabinet maintenance.

Non-Polarity Dual Redundant Power Input Terminal Block

33mm Ultra-Slim Armor: Fanless IP40

Measuring just 33mm in width, this fanless metal Hub preserves critical DIN-rail space. Engineered for extreme -40°C to +75°C environments with Level 4 Surge/EFT immunity.

Note: As an unmanaged switch with automatic priority detection, no GSDML file is required for operation in TIA Portal/Step 7.

Can I use a standard commercial switch instead of a PROFINET-optimized switch?
No, using a standard IT switch risks PLC bus faults. While a basic off-the-shelf switch will pass data, it processes packets on a first-in, first-out basis. If a heavy data burst (like an IP camera image) hits the switch, it will delay your PLC’s cyclic control packets. The VT-SW5PN utilizes PROFINET protocol priority transmission to guarantee that real-time automation data always jumps the queue and arrives with zero jitter.
Do I need a GSDML file or IP address to configure this switch in Siemens TIA Portal?
No configuration is required at all. Because the VT-SW5PN is an unmanaged switch, it acts transparently. You do not need to download a GSDML file, and you do not need to configure an IP address or device name (DCP) in your hardware catalog. It is pure plug-and-play—just connect your PLC and ET200 modules, and the hardware takes care of the traffic prioritization automatically.
Does this unmanaged switch support PROFINET ring redundancy (MRP)?
It forwards frames, but is not an MRP node. It seamlessly passes all standard multicast and broadcast packets. However, because it is unmanaged, it cannot be configured as an active node or manager in a Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) ring. It is perfectly suited for fanning out standard star or tree sub-networks from your main controller panel.
