Industrial Serial Fiber Server

Unlike simple media converters, the VT-FB810 actively converts serial data to TCP/IP protocols before transmitting over optical fiber, enabling legacy RS232/485/422 devices to participate directly in IP network exchanges.

Industrial Serial Fiber Server overview

Single-Mode Fiber & 3-in-1 Serial Interfaces

A single-mode SC optical interface reduces cabling costs. The versatile 3-in-1 serial port (DB9 for RS232, terminal blocks for RS485/422) gives you ultimate flexibility for a variety of field equipment.

SCADA Networking & TCP/IP Edge Routing

Deploy in pairs for transparent 20km serial extension, or use a single unit to connect directly into a fiber switch. This allows host PCs or SCADA software to poll data via IP without needing extra serial cards.

TCP/IP Encapsulation over Fiber
  • Unlike standard media converters that only alter physical signals, the VT-FB810 actively processes and converts serial data into TCP/IP packets before sending them over the optical network.
  • This enables direct connection of the module to an optical switch, allowing your host PC to acquire data directly through IP address or virtual serial ports without requiring an optical receiver at the host end.
Industrial Edge Reliability
  • Designed with inbuilt lightning and surge protection for RS485/422 terminals, it is very robust for outdoor and heavy industrial automation applications.
  • Incorporates intelligent disconnection detection algorithm that automatically re-establishes dropped TCP links to guarantee real-time data delivery.

Technical FAQ

What is the difference between the VT-FB810 and standard media converters like the VT-FB800?
Standard media converters (like VT-FB800) only perform physical signal conversion between Ethernet and fiber. The VT-FB810 is an actual Serial Device Server. It actively converts RS232/485 serial data into TCP/IP protocols before transmitting over fiber. This allows you to connect it directly to a fiber switch and poll data via an IP address without needing a receiver module at the host end.
Can I use two VT-FB810 units to simply extend a serial connection over fiber?
Yes. You can use them in A/B pairs to achieve up to a 20km RS485/RS232 extension. When used this way, they operate transparently. Please note that you MUST pair an A-end model (1310nm TX) with a B-end model (1550nm TX); identical models will not link.
Does it support Modbus RTU to TCP conversion?
Absolutely. Because it integrates full device server software, it supports directly converting Modbus TCP requests to Modbus RTU, making it perfect for upgrading legacy Modbus networks to modern optical IP infrastructure.
